Sermon Summary – “Let Go of the Past”

Text: Philippians 3:13

In Philippians 3:13, the Apostle Paul calls believers to make a decisive break from what is behind in order to pursue what is ahead in Christ. Writing from prison to the church in Philippi, Paul challenges them—and us—not to be defined or controlled by past sins, past successes, painful experiences, or unhealthy attachments. The Greek word for “forgetting” implies a deliberate choice to stop allowing the past to shape our present obedience. Letting go is not denial; it is surrender.

This sermon calls believers to release the weight of yesterday so they can receive God’s purpose for today. Grace is freely given, but walking in purpose requires sacrifice and obedience. We cannot step fully into what God has prepared while clinging to what He has already asked us to release.

Big Idea:

You must release the past in order to receive the purpose of God.
