The Lamb of God
In John 1:29–34, John the Baptist declares that Jesus is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” This title reveals the mission of Jesus—to become the ultimate sacrifice for humanity’s sin. Just as lambs were sacrificed in the Old Testament for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus would offer Himself as the perfect and final sacrifice through His death on the cross. John also testifies that he witnessed the Holy Spirit descend and remain on Jesus, confirming that Jesus is the promised Messiah and the Son of God.
This passage teaches that Jesus not only removes our sin through His sacrifice but also gives believers new life through the Holy Spirit. Because of Jesus, we can experience forgiveness, freedom from guilt and shame, and a restored relationship with God. As followers of Christ, we are called to receive His forgiveness and live in the freedom and transformation He provides.
